Bhel Puri Recipe


Not too many people know that bhel puri was innovated by the sindhi community. In fact, most people consider it to be a creation of the Maharastrians, as it is a popular snack sold on streets there. Here is a simple bhel puri recipe for all those who prefer to eat and serve homemade snacks:

The ingredients:

3 cups puffed rice
1 ½ cups of sev
1 finely chopped onion
2 finely chopped Tomatoes
¼ cup finely chopped raw mango
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
2 boiled and diced potatoes
1 finely chopped onion
¼ teaspoon red chilli powder
Salt to taste
Green chutney
Sweet-sour tamarind chutney

(Green chutney):

1 bunch coriander
6 green chillies
½ bunch mint leaves
Salt to taste
2-3 teaspoons of lemon juice.

Blend the abovementioned ingredients in a grinder, adding some water to make a paste. Keep it in the fridge.

(Sweet-sour tamarind chutney):

1 cup of Tamarind extract
½ cup dates
1 Tablespoon of brown sugar
2 teaspoon cumin powder
2 Teaspoon chilli powder
Salt to taste


Boil the above ingredients together till the mixture becomes half of its actual quantity. Then cool it. After it is cooled blend into a paste in a grinder.

The Bhel Puri:

Mix all the ingredients mentioned in the bhel puri ingredients list, along with both the chutneys. It is ready to serve.
